Dwight Twilley Band
Dwight Twilley Band was the musical partnership between songwriter/vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist Dwight Twilley and singer/drummer/bassist Phil Seymour. The Tulsa-based band were pioneers of D.I.Y. recording in the late ’60s, setting up a makeshift studio above an electric shop owned by the grandfather of the duo’s guitarist, Bill Pitcock IV. Going by the band name Oister in the early years, representing Dwight and Phil as two halves of a whole, they amassed hundreds of Twilley-written songs before signing to Leon Russell’s Shelter Records. The Dwight Twilley Band released two highly acclaimed albums, Sincerely (1976) and Twilley Don’t Mind (1977) before Twilley and Seymour pursued solo careers. Seymour passed away in 1993 and Twilley in 2023, but The Dwight Twilley Band’s music, most notably “Looking for the Magic” and “I’m on Fire,” has continued to reach new fans through frequent film and TV usages.
